On May 29th, 1970, thirty young men and women graduated from St. Michael's School in Gastonia, NC
to go forth and further our educations and prepare ourselves for the world ahead of us.
It has been 50 years since we as a group stepped on the campus of St. Michael's School
to lineup on the asphalt playgound, pray and say the pledge of allegiance before marching into
class for our daily education.
For those who are still with us, it's a time to remember those classmates who no longer walk among us
and look back at that time in our lives where we were given our early directions in life.

Fr. Gregory Eichenlaub, O.S.B.
Fr. Gregory Eichenlaub, O.S.B. was the pastor at St. Michael's throughout our years at St. Michael's School.
His dictum was
"Where we do not do what we want to do, but what we ought".
Around 1950, Fr. Gregory recognized the need to expand the capabilities of the old school located at
the corner of York Street and Jackson Road (a former residential home).
He responded by purchasing 10.5 acres on Gravely Avenue for $16,500. Gravely Avenue was later
changed to St. Michael's Lane. The school was dedicated in 1952 and cost $140,000.
It opened with 129 students in K-8 grades.
The school was primarliy staffed by the good sisters of Sacred Heart Convent in Belmont.
